About Hot Plants

Hello!
I am Debbie Pendle owner of Hot Plants, a specialist nursery and mail order business based in the historic city of York. I am growing some of the finest and most vibrant hardy exotic plants with a good selection of interesting evergreens and succulents that will look great all year round. Centre-stage is an impressive range of Camellias, specially chosen to offer a variety of rich colours and flower forms and great gifts ideas for fellow gardeners.

Our story
Hot Plants started in West Cornwall in 2009 the creation of Terry Bromfield an ‘old skool’ nurseryman with a lifetime experience in the horticultural business. Following his move back North, the business relocated to York in 2016 and has been our home ever since. With Terry looking at retirement and less time in the polytunnel and more time on the allotment, I took over the running of the business. I am trained in horticulture and garden design and have over twenty years of experience as an organic grower and even longer in retailing.

Our customers are passionate about their gardens and want beautiful and unusual plants that work hard for their precious garden space. Finding the right plants should not be left to chance! Our website and mail order service makes it very easy to get plants delivered all year round.

Why Hot Plants
Growing healthy plants can be achieved without the use of harmful chemicals and we welcome the help we get from the ladybirds, frogs and birds that regularly visit our polytunnels.

Buying plants grown here in the UK not only reduces the carbon footprint but also supports the British horticultural industry.

We use reduced peat and peat-free compost to grow our plants.

We recycle as many plant pots as possible which not only reduces production costs but also the waste going into landfill.

We are working towards using all bio-degradable packaging.
